Ich hatte ursprünglich einen ellenlangen Text vorbereitet, doch dann merkte ich, dass ich damit sowieso nicht sagen konnte, was ich über dieses Album denke, darum fasse ich mich jetzt kurz:<br><br>Bestes Manics-Album seit 1994 ("The Holy Bible")!<br><br>Highlights:<br>"Peeled Apples"<br>"Facing Page: Top Left"<br>"All Is Vanity"<br>"Williams Last Words/Bag Lady"

Mir gefallen auch beide Seiten der Manics. Das Album hab ich mir gestern (okay, okay, nachdem ich schon eine Woche zuvor im Inet fündig geworden bin) in der Deluxe Edition inklusive Demos und Original-Lyrics von Richey geholt. Lohnt sich wirklich!

Das Vorgängeralbum fand ich persönlich um Klassen besser.

Das Album fährt mit seinen 13 Songs auf sicheren Schienen, denn alles klingt ähnlich, zumindest in meinen Ohren. Magst du ein Lied, magst du alle - aber mögen ist nicht lieben. Die Texte sind teilweise auch eher befremdend, oft aber noch das beste am Lied wie z.B. "William's Last Words".<br><br>Zu der "monotonen" (nicht falsch verstehen) Musik - die ja auch gut ist, keine Frage - kommt auch noch die teilweise emotionslose Stimme, die das Lied nicht so recht schmücken will. Grundsolide, nicht herausragend - ein Album, bei dem man, wenn man es währenddessen hört, die Liederübergänge nicht wahrnimmt. Wie es sein könnte, zeigt der brilliante Hidden Track.

Großartig! Passt (zum Glück) so gar nicht zum oevre der Waliser in den letzten Jahren. Kantig, schroff, gleichzeitig eingängig und originell wie seit "Know Your Enemy" 2001 nicht mehr!<br><br>Zum Abgewöhnen dagegen höre man sich das 2010er "Postcards from a Young Man" oder "Lifeblood" (2004) an: Die Manics bleiben ihrer Selbstverstümmelungs-Attitüde treu.

Das Album ist hervorragend, eine ruhige und melancholische Vorsetzung von „The Holy Bible“. Der Einfluss von Steve Albini macht „Journal for Plaque Lovers“ noch schön Nirvana-lastig. Gehört zu ihren besten Alben, wobei ich anmerken muss, dass mir die von Nicky gesungenen Demos fast mehr zusagen. Er hätte sich ruhig mehr austoben dürfen. Ok, er ist mein Liebling, er darf alles...

Ganz gutes Album, noch etwas besser als der Vorgänger aber für mich trotzdem kein 5er. Positiv zu vermerken ist, dass es nicht mehr diesen stellenweise vorhandenen Stadion Rock Charakter vom Vorgänger hat und ein wenig Holy Bible Feeling steckt mit drin. Ein paar Songs höre ich allerdings vor allem im Mittelteil auch etwas zu ähnlich in ihrer Art und generell fehlts mir melodisch an vielen Stellen, gibt aber trotzdem sehr viel hörenswertes drauf. 4+
