Auf dem Blatt Papier sah diese Zusammenarbeit echt gut aus. Es scheint in letzter Zeit sowieso wieder beliebter zu sein, eine Sängerin mit einem DJ zu mischen, und das mit einem '&' statt einem 'feat.'. Leider ist der Drop hier bei "Stay" überraschend schwach ausgefallen, die Vocals von Alessia retten jedoch eine solide 4er-Bewertung.<br><br>edit: Nun endlich rauf auf 5*. Hat mich dann doch noch mehr begeistert wie erst gedacht, und wurde immerhin ein kleines Highlight des Jahres 2017.

I was almost sure this was going to be decent; there is a nice build up in the first verse but that has to be one of the most anti-climatic chorus/post-chorus ever. Not only does the pause-play nature of it not work for me, but it also sounds very unpleasant. <br><br>I can tolerate this now. 3*

I feel like this represents Zedd well. Unpredictable but in a good way. It's definitely a grower and makes me appreciate more than It Ain't Me after some more listens. |

As far as recent electro-pop goes, this song is in the upper tier I would say. It's easy to compare this to the Kygo track since they're both B tier collaborations with the sum of their parts making for a B+ tier hit. This gets the slight edge because it feels like a strong collaboration between singer & producer. The two come together on this song in a way that actually fits in place, both wringing out the same melody with a sense of refreshing urgency. The synchronisation with 'the clock is ticking' is simultaneously the best and worst thing about the song. |

So:<br><br>- that "mmmmm" sound throughout the song is kinda annoying<br>- Alessia's vocals are pretty good and pleasant to listen to<br>- some days I can enjoy the stop start chorus and some days it annoys me. I think it's generally more of the former<br>- the clock sounds have generally had the same effect, but it's usually fun<br>- I like the slight change up in production during the second pre-chorus. Those little things can really matter<br>- I can really dig the honesty and vulnerability in the lyrics<br><br>I did get sick of this last year but not hearing it as much anymore has helped it gain favour again. A quality dance pop hit in a year that produced so many mediocre ones. |
